The Menu Bar runs across the top of the Armorsmith Designer window and is your central hub for managing costume files, controlling your avatar, toggling panels, and accessing help resources. This page documents every menu and its items so you always know where to go.

File Menu

The File menu handles everything related to your costume files — creating, opening, saving, and moving data in or out of Armorsmith Designer.
Creates a brand-new, empty costume. You will be prompted to save any unsaved changes to your current costume before the new costume opens.
Opens an existing Armorsmith Designer costume file from your computer. Displays a standard Windows file picker filtered to supported costume file formats.
Opens a submenu with the most recent costume files that have been loaded
Merge an existing Armorsmith Designer costume file from your computer with the currently open costume.
Saves the current costume to its existing file location. If the costume has never been saved before, this behaves the same as Save As.Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + S
Saves the current costume to a new file name or location of your choosing. Useful for creating named versions of your work at different stages.Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + S
Creates a blank workspace which you can use to create templates on with the 2D spline tools.
Imports an external 3D model file and attaches it to the current costume. Use this to bring in the costume parts you have modelled in other software. Supported formats depend on your version of Armorsmith Designer — check the import dialog for a list of accepted file types.
Opens a submenu with the most recently imported files that have been imported into the tool.
Opens up a window with a search bar that can be used to search online using Armorsmiths online repository of files.
Exports your costume or generated templates to an output format — for example, a printable PDF pattern sheet. Use this when you are ready to produce physical construction templates from your design. Or it can export your parts as 3D models to be used with 3D printing.
Quits the application.

Avatar Menu

The Avatar menu provides controls for setting up and managing the 3D avatar that your costume parts are built around. Talk about posing
Opens the avatar measurement editor, where you enter or update the body measurements that Armorsmith Designer uses to shape your avatar. Always complete this step before attaching costume parts so that templates scale correctly to the wearer’s body.
Puts the application into the edit pose mode. This can be used to change the pose that the avatar is in. The pose can be edited in two ways. The first is the sphere joints can be selected and then the translation tool used to move them around. Or second the bones can be selected and then the rotation tool used to rotate them.
Resets the avatar to its default pose and proportions, discarding any customisations. Use this if your avatar has been modified unexpectedly or if you want to start fresh with a new set of measurements.

Selecting this opens up a sub-menu which has a few pose choices that can be applied to the avatar.
Opens an existing Armorsmith Designer avatar file from your computer. Displays a standard Windows file picker filtered to supported the avatar file format.
Saves the current costume to its existing file location. If the avatar has never been saved before, this behaves the same as Save As.
Saves the current Avatar to a new file name or location of your choosing. Useful for creating named versions of your avatar at different stages.
Opens a custom model for the Avatar. If the custom avatar has had a skeleton created for it using www.mixamo.com then it will be able to be posed and have the appropriate attachment points created for it. If it is just a plain model then the edit pose tool will have to be used to get the attachment points in the correct places.
Exports a 3D model of the Avatar. Supported formats depend on your version of Armorsmith Designer — check the export dialog for a list of accepted file types.
Saves the current Pose to a new file name or location of your choosing.
Opens a Pose and then applies it to the current Avatar.

Edit Menu

The Windows menu lets you show or hide interface panels without closing your costume.
Reverts the last action performed in the current project. Most editing operations, including transformations, property changes, and geometry edits, can be undone.
Reapplies the last action that was previously undone, allowing you to step forward through your edit history.
Copies the currently selected objects to the clipboard. The copied objects can then be pasted elsewhere within the project.
Creates a copy of any objects currently stored in the clipboard and places them into the scene. Newly pasted objects can be repositioned as needed.
Removes the currently selected objects from the project. Deleted objects can be restored using Undo if needed.
Moves the selected objects using the translation gizmo. Objects can be repositioned freely along the X, Y, and Z axes.
Rotates the selected objects using the rotation gizmo. Rotation can be performed around any axis to accurately position parts.
Joins multiple patterns into a single object or separates previously joined patterns, depending on the current selection. To join the user selects one edge and then selects a second edge, then the user can choose to move the source pattern to the destination pattern or vise/versa depending on the facing arrow on the connecting join line. To separate an edge just click on a connected edge.
Scales the selected objects either uniformly or independently along each axis. This tool is useful for resizing armor parts while maintaining their proportions.
Creates a new group containing all currently selected objects. Grouping allows multiple parts to be manipulated together while remaining organized within the scene hierarchy.
Generates 2D unfolded patterns from the selected low-polygon mesh. The resulting pattern can be arranged, edited, and printed for physical construction.
Automatically joins neighboring open edges that fall within a specified tolerance. This is useful for repairing patterns before printing or further editing.
A useful tool which allows distances to be measured directly within the scene, helping verify sizing and scale. Click on one point to begin measuring and then click on a second point to complete the measurement.
Restores all material colors on the selected objects to their default values. This is useful for removing temporary color changes or returning imported models to their original appearance.
Attempts to repair errors in a pepakura file where edges have been marked as being open but should actually be connected edges.

Quick Tips

Most-used actions at a glance:
  • Save often — use Ctrl + S any time you complete a meaningful change. Armorsmith Designer does not auto-save.
  • Import first, measure second — bring in your 3D model files via File → Import, then fine-tune positions in the Property Grid once they’re attached.
  • Always check for updates — Armorsmith is always in active development so it’s worthwhile checking for updates to see if there’s any new versions. Check the changelog after downloading to see what’s new.
